Idukki, 06 August (H.S.): One person was killed and three others were injured after a car carrying a family from Thiruvananthapuram lost control and plunged into a stream near Elappara in Kerala’s Idukki district on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred near Fourth Mile on the hilly highway connecting Elappara and Kattappana. The vehicle was carrying five people when it veered off the road and fell into the Chinnar stream running alongside the highway.

According to preliminary information, the occupants of the car were residents of Thiruvananthapuram and were travelling towards Kattappana from Elappara when the accident occurred.

One of the occupants sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Three others were injured, with the condition of one of them reported to be serious. A four-year-old child who was travelling in the vehicle escaped without injuries.

Local residents and others in the area rushed to the spot after learning about the accident and assisted in rescuing the occupants from the vehicle. The injured were subsequently taken to the Peermade Taluk Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately available. Further details regarding the condition of those undergoing treatment were also awaited.

The accident occurred on a mountainous stretch of road near Fourth Mile. Preliminary reports indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle before it went off the road and overturned into the stream.

Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the accident, including whether road or weather conditions contributed to the vehicle losing control.

Police are gathering further details about the accident and the occupants of the vehicle. Further proceedings will be carried out after completing the necessary formalities.
