Bhubaneswar, 06 August (H.S.): In a significant move to strengthen cancer care, the Odisha government has added 91 new treatment packages under the integrated Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana as part of the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Programme.

With this expansion, the total number of treatment packages under the two schemes has increased from 2,163 to 2,254. The initiative aims to make advanced cancer treatment more accessible and affordable, reducing the financial burden on patients.

Cancer treatment often involves early diagnosis, specialised investigations, and a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other advanced interventions. Recognising the high cost of such care, the state government has broadened coverage to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive quality treatment without financial hardship.

The government has allocated ₹311 crore in the 2026–27 state budget for the programme. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the state will provide free cancer treatment through this initiative, with funds earmarked for awareness campaigns, mobile screening camps, a digital hub-and-spoke healthcare model, and free transportation for patients.

He added that all empanelled hospitals have been directed to provide treatment under the approved packages, and beneficiaries have already begun availing services.

According to officials, a total of 121 cancer treatment packages are now available under the integrated Ayushman Bharat–Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, including the newly introduced ones.
