Kolkata, 06 August (H.S.): Mohammedan Sporting Club has removed its president, Humayun Kabir, MLA from Naoda, after a cheque worth ₹1.5 crore issued by him reportedly bounced three consecutive times due to insufficient funds.

According to sources, Kabir had assumed the club's top post after promising to resolve its financial crisis and help clear debts estimated at around ₹13 crore. As part of that commitment, he handed over a cheque of ₹1.5 crore to the club. However, the cheque was dishonoured on three occasions because of insufficient balance in his bank account.

Following the repeated cheque bounces, the club served a legal notice to Kabir, asking him to clear the promised amount within 15 days. The notice reportedly warned that failure to make the payment would lead to both civil and criminal proceedings against him.

Sources said Kabir assured club officials that the issue would be resolved soon, but the promised payment did not materialise. The repeated failure to honour the cheque and fulfil his financial commitment led to growing dissatisfaction among the club's office-bearers.

Citing the club's deteriorating image and the unfulfilled assurances, the Mohammedan Sporting Club management decided to remove Humayun Kabir from the post of president.

There has been no immediate official response from Humayun Kabir regarding his removal.
