Kochi, 06 August (H.S.): The Ernakulam district administration, in association with the Kerala State IT Mission, is set to launch AI-ERA (Ernakulam Revolutionising Administration), an initiative aimed at transforming Ernakulam into Kerala’s first AI-literate government district.
The initiative seeks to equip government officials with foundational knowledge and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence while promoting the responsible, secure and effective use of the technology in public administration.
Higher Education Minister Roji M. John will inaugurate AI-ERA at 10.30 am on Thursday at Park Centre Hall, Infopark, Kakkanad. District Collector Priyanka G, heads of various government departments, senior officials, representatives of the Kerala State IT Mission and other dignitaries will attend the programme.
A key component of the initiative will be the establishment of a dedicated AI Studio at the Ernakulam Collectorate. The facility will serve as a year-round training centre for government officials, offering programmes ranging from basic AI concepts to the use of advanced AI tools.
The training will cover areas such as prompt engineering, data analysis, cybersecurity and practical applications of AI in governance. Officials will be trained to integrate appropriate AI tools into their day-to-day administrative functions, with the objective of improving efficiency and enhancing the speed and quality of public service delivery.
The programme will also focus on the responsible and secure adoption of AI as government departments increasingly explore emerging technologies to streamline administrative processes and strengthen citizen services.
According to the district administration, AI-ERA represents a significant step towards creating an AI-enabled governance ecosystem.
Through the initiative, Ernakulam aims to demonstrate how Artificial Intelligence can be effectively incorporated into government operations to build a more efficient, transparent and citizen-centric administration. The project could also position the district as a model for AI-driven governance initiatives elsewhere in Kerala.
