
Guwahati, 06 August (HS): The Directorate of Census Operations, Assam on Thursday officially launched the Census 2027 Theme Song at Amingaon as part of its public outreach campaign for the first phase of Census 2027.
The song, written by Kokrajhar District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty and voiced by the late Zubeen Garg, aims to spread awareness about the importance of the Census and encourage citizens to participate in the ongoing Self-Enumeration process.
Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu said the Self-Enumeration process began on August 2 and will continue till August 16, while the House Listing Operations will be conducted from August 17 to September 15, 2026. He stressed the need for extensive grassroots awareness to ensure every household actively participates in the Census.
Pankaj Chakravarty said the theme song was originally composed in 2013. After an extensive search, the original recording featuring Zubeen Garg's vocals was recovered. While retaining the original voice, the chorus has been updated and a fresh musical arrangement featuring noted Santoor player Pankaj Sharma has been added.
Speaking at the event, Garima Garg expressed happiness that Zubeen Garg's music would continue to serve a meaningful public cause. She said the singer would have been proud to see his song being used to create public awareness and extended her best wishes for the successful conduct of Census 2027.
The programme was attended by Additional Secretary, GAD and Nodal Officer (Census) Partha Pegu, Joint Director of Census Operations Dr. Nijora Sharma, Deputy Registrar General Bharati Chanda, senior Census officials and members of the media.-----------
