
Aizawl, 06 August (HS): Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, Aizawl, seized smuggled areca nuts worth approximately ₹1.56 crore in Mizoram's Saitual district, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was carried out on August 4 at Kawlbem, where security personnel intercepted two goods carrier trucks and recovered 320 sacks of areca nuts weighing 22,400 kg.
Two individuals were apprehended during the operation. The seized contraband, along with the vehicles and the accused, was handed over to the Customs Department, Aizawl, for further legal action.
Assam Rifles said the successful operation highlights its continued commitment to preventing cross-border smuggling and strengthening security along Mizoram's border areas.
