New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.): Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday after persistent sloganeering and protests by Opposition members disrupted Question Hour, prompting Speaker Om Birla to suspend the House.

As soon as the House convened, Speaker Om Birla appealed to members to allow Question Hour to proceed smoothly and urged them to cooperate in conducting the business of the House. However, Opposition members continued their protest over the police action against student demonstrators during the Parliament March held on July 20. They raised slogans, including demands that the Union Home Minister respond to the issue.

Amid the continuing uproar, the Speaker reminded members that Parliament is the highest forum of democracy, meant for discussion and dialogue. He said, The House is not a platform for sloganeering. It is the responsibility of Members of Parliament to engage in debate. Sloganeering will not fulfil the expectations of the people. I will provide everyone with an opportunity to participate in the discussion.

Despite his repeated appeals, the Opposition continued its protest, making it impossible to conduct Question Hour. With the disruption persisting, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the Lok Sabha until 2:00 p.m.
