New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the Congress and the INDIA bloc of repeatedly disrupting Parliament proceedings, alleging that the Opposition's actions have prevented meaningful legislative discussions during the ongoing Monsoon Session.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said crores of rupees are spent on every session of Parliament, yet the Question Hour has not functioned since the beginning of the Monsoon Session. He added that the Zero Hour has also been disrupted repeatedly and that discussions on nearly every major Bill have been obstructed.

Patra accused the Congress of adopting a double standard, alleging that while thousands of students are protesting over the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination, the party has neither supported the agitating students nor raised the issue in Parliament.

He said Congress leaders had not displayed even a single placard in support of the students, which, according to him, demonstrated that the party's protests amounted to selective outrage.

The BJP spokesperson also referred to the alleged paper leak in the Karnataka Police Constable recruitment examination. He alleged that when protesting students questioned Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge about accountability, the minister reportedly remarked that students should first continue a hunger strike for 25 days, then face a police baton charge, and only thereafter would he consider worrying about his resignation.

Patra further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have remained silent on the issue. He said that while Mallikarjun Kharge delivered a detailed speech on the matter in the Rajya Sabha—which Patra said was appropriate because the issue deserved discussion—both he and Rahul Gandhi had failed to respond to what the BJP described as an insensitive and inhumane statement allegedly made by Priyank Kharge.

The BJP leader also accused the Opposition of preventing discussions on several important legislative proposals. He said the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which contains significant provisions related to the registration of births and deaths, has not been discussed even for a single day because of disruptions by the Congress and its allies.

He also referred to the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, 2026, introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, stating that it is an important piece of legislation affecting millions of people associated with the banking sector. However, he said continuous disruptions in Parliament have prevented meaningful debate on the Bill, alleging that the Opposition remains preoccupied with creating disorder in the House.
