Guwahati, 04 August (HS): Flood conditions continue to affect parts of Upper Assam, with 1,28,071 people across seven districts still reeling under the impact of the deluge, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The latest ASDMA report stated that two more bodies were recovered from Sivasagar district on Monday, taking the statewide flood death toll to 87. The worst-hit districts remain Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, where floodwaters and mud continue to inundate homes and roads. The Dhansiri River at Numaligarh is still flowing above the danger mark.

A total of 380 villages under 24 revenue circles in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat and Lakhimpur remain affected, while 14,230.15 hectares of agricultural land are still submerged.

The state government is operating 38 relief camps and 17 relief distribution centres, providing shelter to 11,066 people, while 184 non-camp residents are receiving relief assistance.

Floods have also affected 34,471 large animals, 13,238 small animals and 2,069 poultry birds. In Sivasagar alone, 54,585 livestock have reportedly been washed away.

The disaster has caused extensive damage to residential properties, particularly in Sivasagar, where 219 kucha houses and 83 pucca houses have been completely destroyed, while hundreds of others have suffered partial damage.

Rescue and relief operations are being carried out jointly by the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Air Force, Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence, local administration and trained volunteers. The government has also deployed 76 medical teams and 23 boats in the affected areas.

Relief materials, including rice, pulses, mustard oil and animal fodder, are being distributed among flood-hit families. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been camping in Upper Assam since August 2, is personally monitoring relief, rehabilitation and restoration efforts, with special focus on repairing damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure.----------
