New Delhi, 16 August (H.S.): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary, recalling his contributions to nation-building and highlighting his value-based approach to politics.

In a message on X, Shah described Vajpayee as a patriotic statesman who dedicated every moment of his life to serving the nation. He said Vajpayee’s political legacy was marked by strong principles, commitment to national interest and a focus on public welfare.

Shah said Vajpayee made the world recognise India’s strategic strength through the country’s nuclear tests and its response during the Kargil War. At the same time, he said, Vajpayee’s value-based politics helped translate the ideals of Antyodaya and good governance into reality.

Shah also highlighted Vajpayee’s contribution to strengthening India’s strategic capabilities and advancing its development agenda. He said Vajpayee’s leadership and vision played an important role in making India stronger and more confident.

Vajpayee, who served as prime minister on three occasions, died on August 16, 2018, at the age of 93. He was the first leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party to complete a full five-year term as prime minister.

Several political leaders paid tribute to Vajpayee on his death anniversary, remembering his statesmanship, parliamentary contribution and commitment to public service.

Vajpayee continues to be remembered for his emphasis on democratic values, good governance and national development, with his political legacy remaining influential in India’s public life.
