Bhubaneswar, 11 August (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Sarat Kumar Nayak, former Secretary of Anandpur Service Cooperative Society (SCS)/PACS Banki in Cuttack district, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of society funds amounting to ₹21.28 lakh.
According to Odisha Vigilance, an investigation revealed that Nayak had collected loan repayment amounts directly from several borrower members of PACS Banki. Although he recorded the actual amounts collected in the daily transaction ledger (Day Book), he allegedly manipulated the official accounting registers by deliberately showing lower collection figures.
The Vigilance investigation found that the difference between the actual collections and the amounts reflected in the official records, totalling ₹21,28,058, was allegedly misappropriated for personal gain. The alleged financial irregularities caused substantial loss to PACS Banki and the government exchequer.
In connection with the case, Cuttack Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 29 dated August 10, 2026, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Sections 409 and 467 of the IPC, against Nayak.
Following his arrest, Nayak was produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, on Tuesday.
