Purulia, 05 July (H.S.): Sensation spread across Dimdiha village in West Bengal's Purulia district after the blood-stained body of an elderly woman was found near a pond on Sunday morning. Her family has alleged that she was murdered.

According to local residents, villagers spotted the woman's body lying near the pond on Sunday morning. The body was found without clothes. On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area, recovered the body, and sent it to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

Given the seriousness of the case, DSP (Discipline and Training) Saikat Swarnakar and Officer-in-Charge of Purulia Muffasil Police Station Bibhas Roy visited the scene on Sunday morning. A forensic team has also been called to collect evidence.

A senior district police official said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and that the exact cause of death will be known only after the report is received.

Meanwhile, the deceased woman's family has alleged that she was murdered. According to them, she had been living at her parental home following her divorce. Her brother said she had been suffering from a minor mental health condition. We saw her near the pond on Saturday night and called her to come home, but she did not respond. We thought she would return later. However, on Sunday morning we found her dead. My sister has been murdered, he alleged.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are awaiting the post-mortem findings to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
