South 24 Parganas, 05 July (H.S.): A 12-year-old minor girl has allegedly been raped and murdered in the Baruipur area of the district. Her body was recovered from a pond located a short distance from her home. Tension spread through the area on Sunday morning following the incident. Police have launched an investigation and taken one accused into custody.

The minor's body was found in the Suryapur Haat area under the Dhapdhapi-2 panchayat, within the Baruipur police station jurisdiction.

According to her family, she had been missing since 4 pm on Saturday. She had left home on the pretext of buying food. Local residents claim that four young men had abducted her. Her body was recovered on Sunday morning.

The atmosphere in the Suryapur Haat area has been tense since Sunday morning. An angry mob stopped the body and staged a protest. Police from Baruipur police station arrived at the scene. Local residents apprehended one accused, identified as Prabhas Mondal, and handed him over to the police. Police have launched a search operation in the area to trace the remaining accused.
