Bhubaneswar, 05 July (H.S.): The Odisha Police Officers’ Association has demanded a high-level investigation into the mysterious death of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, who was found dead in her official quarters on Saturday morning.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, association president Asit Kumar Jena urged the authorities to complete the probe within 30 days and make the findings public to ensure transparency. He said the case should not be treated as a routine unnatural death (U/D) and called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
Jena also raised concerns over the workload and working conditions of police personnel in the state, alleging that many officers are required to work up to 18 hours a day with limited access to leave. He said prolonged work pressure has become a serious issue and urged the state government to take corrective measures to improve the well-being of police personnel.
The association chief further questioned the implementation of earned leave (EL) provisions, suggesting that compliance across police stations should be reviewed and investigated. He said the matter should be examined seriously, particularly in the context of senior officers working under demanding conditions.
Emphasising the need for a fair inquiry, Jena reiterated that the case should not be treated as an ordinary unnatural death. He said a high-level probe was necessary to establish the facts, with a report submitted within 30 days and made public thereafter.
He also responded to media queries regarding allegations raised by the deceased officer’s family, stating that such claims would be better addressed by the concerned police authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
Meanwhile, police have begun an investigation into the incident. The deceased officer, Beauty Mohanty, was serving as IIC of Chauliaganj Police Station in Cuttack.
