Lucknow, 31 July (HS): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief
Mayawati welcomed the restoration of the name of Sant Ravidas Nagar and
demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government restore the original names of other
districts as well. In a post on the social media platform 'X' on Friday, she
stated that the BSP government had created several new districts, named after
saints, great men, and social reformers, to strengthen the administrative
system and serve the public interest. Mayawati alleged that the Samajwadi Party
government had changed the names of Sant Ravidas Nagar, Chhatrapati Shahuji
Maharaj Nagar, Bhim Nagar, and other districts due to casteist thinking and
narrow-minded politics.
She said that now that the name of Sant Ravidas Nagar has
been restored, the government should also restore the original names of
districts named after Kanshi Ram and other great men. The BSP chief
specifically mentioned Kasganj, saying that it was created by the BSP government
in the name of Kanshi Ram, but the name was later changed. She demanded that
the district named after Kanshi Ram be restored to its original name on or
before his death anniversary, October 9. Mayawati said the BSP would be
grateful to the government if this happened.
