Glasgow, 30 July (H.S.): India's star long jumper Murali Sreeshankar delivered another impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning the silver medal in the men's long jump event on Wednesday (local time). With the result, he successfully repeated his silver-medal finish from the Birmingham 2022 Games, securing a place on the Commonwealth Games podium for the second consecutive edition.

The 27-year-old recorded his best jump of 8.09 metres on his second attempt among six jumps. Although two of his attempts were ruled foul, Sreeshankar remained firmly in medal contention throughout the competition with his consistent performance.

Jamaica's three-time World Championships medallist Tajay Gayle claimed the gold medal after producing the competition's best jump of 8.15 metres on his fourth attempt, which proved decisive. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie secured the bronze medal with a leap of 8.08 metres on his opening attempt.

India's other representative, Lokesh Sathyanathan, also impressed by finishing fifth with a best effort of 7.97 metres.

Sreeshankar maintained excellent rhythm throughout the event and remained a strong contender for the gold medal. However, the experienced Jamaican athlete delivered a decisive jump at the crucial stage of the competition to secure the top spot.

Sreeshankar's silver medal adds another significant achievement to India's athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 and further highlights the steady rise of Indian athletics on the international stage.
