New Delhi, 30 July (H.S.): India delivered an impressive performance on the seventh day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Wednesday, winning one gold and one silver medal to climb to eighth place in the overall medal standings.

Para-athlete Dilip Gavit created history by winning the gold medal in the men's T47 100m event, while compatriot Mohammed Basil secured the silver, giving India a historic one-two finish in the competition. In athletics, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar added another silver medal to India's tally with a best leap of 8.09 metres, earning a place on the Commonwealth Games podium for the second consecutive edition.

The day began on a positive note for India as six Indian boxers, including Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Chaudhary and Sachin Siwach, won their respective quarter-final bouts to guarantee at least bronze medals.

Dilip Gavit claimed the gold medal in the men's T47 100m event with a Games record time of 10.71 seconds, while Mohammed Basil finished second in 10.83 seconds to secure the silver. The victory also marked India's third gold medal of the ongoing Games.

In the men's long jump final, Murali Sreeshankar produced a best effort of 8.09 metres to claim the silver medal after a closely contested battle with Jamaica's Tajay Gayle, who won the gold. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie took the bronze medal, while India's Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth.

Following these performances, India moved up to eighth place in the medal standings with a total of 15 medals, comprising three gold, nine silver and three bronze.

Australia continued to lead the medal table with 103 medals, including 47 gold, 21 silver and 35 bronze. Canada occupied second place with 39 medals, while England stood third with 56 medals.

Host nation Scotland was placed fourth, followed by Nigeria in fifth, South Africa in sixth and Malaysia in seventh. India occupied eighth position, with New Zealand and Jamaica completing the top ten in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
