Historic 64% increase in international applications in 2026-27

session

Lucknow, 03 July (HS): Under the leadership of Chief

Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is establishing a new identity in the

fields of education, investment, and innovation, as well as in global higher

education. The positive results of the state government's policies to

effectively implement the National Education Policy 2020, modernize

universities, secure an educational environment, and promote international

collaboration are now clearly visible. A prime example of this is Lucknow

University, where a record 3,421 international students from 77 countries have

applied for admission for the 2026-27 academic year.

This number represents an increase of 1,338 from the 2,083

applications received in the previous academic year, 2025-26. The university

has recorded a historic 64 percent increase in enrollment in just one year.

This achievement demonstrates that Uttar Pradesh is becoming a trusted

educational destination not only for students across the country but also for

students worldwide.

According to the university administration, students from 77

countries applied for admission to various courses this year. Among these, the

highest number of applications came from Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Sudan, and

Tanzania. Furthermore, applications from European countries like Germany and

Poland are also seen as evidence of the university's growing global acceptance.

Course-wise, undergraduate programs received the highest

number of applications, with 2,552. 595 students applied for postgraduate

programs, while 274 international students applied for PhDs in various

disciplines. The growing interest in research and innovation also underscores

the university's academic quality and research capabilities.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that

under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government's

expansion of infrastructure in the state's universities, promotion of digital

education, smart campuses, industry-based curriculum, encouragement of research

culture, and effective implementation of the National Education Policy have

strengthened the global image of Uttar Pradesh's higher education institutions.

This is why a large number of foreign students are now making Uttar Pradesh's

universities their first choice. Currently, Uttar Pradesh's universities are

receiving national and international grading, making Uttar Pradesh a hub of

higher education. Students from other states, the country and abroad, are

coming to study in Lucknow and Noida, where previously students from Uttar

Pradesh used to go abroad.

Speaking on the occasion, Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor

Professor Jai Prakash Saini stated that this unprecedented increase in international

applications is a result of the university's academic excellence,

employability-oriented curriculum, and student-friendly environment. He added

that the multidisciplinary curriculum, developed in accordance with the

National Education Policy, global research opportunities, and international

collaborations are receiving worldwide recognition. The university is fully

committed to providing a safe, inclusive, clean, and quality educational

environment to all its foreign students. The university's International Cell

has accelerated preparations to ensure a timely and transparent admission

process. Document verification, eligibility testing, and visa-related

formalities for all applications will be completed within the stipulated

timeframe to ensure that foreign students face no inconvenience.
