Nagaon (Assam), 03 July (HS): A man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Kaliabor area of Assam's Nagaon district, triggering anger among local residents over the Forest Department's alleged inaction.

According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of Friday, when a wild elephant, believed to have entered the Kamakhya Gaon Tea Estate area in search of food, attacked the victim. The man killed on the spot. He has been identified as Bishnu Gar.

On receiving information, a police team reached the scene, recovered the body and sent it to a hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The incident sparked resentment among local residents, who accused the Forest Department of failing to respond despite repeated alerts about the elephant's presence in the area. They alleged that timely action to drive the animal back into the forest could have prevented the fatal attack.------------
