Heavy to very heavy rains across Maharashtra predicted, Mumbai traffic affected


Mumbai, 03 July (HS): The life in Mumbai was disrupted on Friday with the

continuous heavy rains lashing the city for the past three days. The National

Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Mumbai,

Pune, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Central Maharashtra, Konkan region and Vidarbha. A

red alert has been issued for Pune and Raigad.

The Met

office has predicted that the intensity of rains would increase in entire

Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, Konkan and Vidarbha regions. Very heavy

rains are expected in Mumbai during the next 72 hours. Some regions are

expected to get up to 200 mm of rains in the next 24 hours. Buldana, Akola and

Amravati districts in the Vidarbha region are expected to get heavy rains with

lightining. The administration has appealed to the people to be careful.

A yellow

alert has been issued Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, and

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Ahilyanagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Washim, Wardha,

Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondi, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli are likely to get rains with

lightning.

In Mumbai

suburbs transport system has been badly affected. The low-lying areas are

inundated.

Mumbai

recorded 200 mm of rains during the last 24 hours, including Malabar Hill – 146

mm, Ford – 139 mm, Andheri – 136 mm, Versova – 129 mm. Powai – 124 mm, Mankhurd

– 118 mm, Bhandup – 116 mm, Mulund -115 mm of rains.
