Nagpur, 03 July
(HS): Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court admonished Food and Drugs
Administration Department for closing Wardha’s Goras Bhandar on May 31. The FDI
authorities raided Goras Bhandara and without any notice sealed it for not storing
milk products worth rs 25,86,168. The FDA decision was challenged by Goras
Bhandar management in the court of law.
The High Court questioned
the action by FDA to seal the premises without any notice. The FDA withdrew its
action after the court questioning.
The Court stated
that it has examined the record of Goras Bhandar of the last 70 years. The
action by FDA was taken without giving any opportunity of improving the
facility. The Court said that it will initiate action against FAD officers
directly without any notice if action without following proper procedure.
Goras Bhandar
was started by Go Dugdha Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha, a cooperative society of
milk producers, and was inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. About
9,000 litres of milk from about 800 families from 15 villages is collected everyday.
These families suffered a huge loss due to action by FDA.
FDA carried out
inspection every year since 2020 and found nothing objectionable.
FDA will now
issue notice for improvement in facilities now.
The next date
for hearing is scheduled for July7.
