
Udhampur, 03 July (H.S.): Jal Shakti/ PHE Employees and Worker Association held a massive protest at PHE Complex, Udhampur under the chairmanship of Som Nath, District president and senior Trade Union leader of Jammu Province.
The employees drawn from Jib Thathi, Panchari, Garhi Rehambal, Chenani, Kud, Patnitop, Sudhmahadev, Ghordi, Barmeen, Ramnagar, Kaghote, Mansar, Majalta and other far- flung areas of the district Udhampur assembled at PHE Complex, here today and started protest. The employees were shouting slogans in favour of their demands.
Som Nath while addressing the gathering strongly criticized the attitude of the UT Govt. He said the Govt failed to address the genuine issues of daily wagers. The pending pay of the last 70 months of the daily wagers has remained unpaid and Govt is befooling the daily wagers since long.
He alleged that the Govt has further delayed the implementation of Minimum Wages Act as per Delhi and Leh UT. The Govt framed the policy of daily wagers under a committee headed by the Chief Secretary but daily wagers are waiting for the last 18 months. The report of the said committee did not make public. On insurance policy of daily wagers, there is still confusion and senior officials failed to remove their doubts.
The Trade Union leader strongly demanded regularization of daily wagers who have completed their seven years of service, release of pending wages of 70 months of the PHE employees, implementation of Minimum Wages Act in J&K UT, remove acute shortage of staff at water and pumping stations, early conduct of DPC meetings, repair of duty and pumping rooms and provide infrastructure there besides providing safety and tool kits to the field staff.
