Jammu, 03 July (H.S.): BJP spokesperson and convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta today accused Pakistan and China of using the so-called International Indus Water Treaty Conference in Islamabad to spread anti-India propaganda and divert global attention from Pakistan's record of sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
Gupta alleged that the conference, attended by Pakistani ministers, diplomats, legal experts, academics and foreign delegates, was aimed at internationalizing a bilateral issue after India decided to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following repeated terrorist attacks allegedly backed by Pakistan. He said the participation of Pakistan's senior leadership reflected a coordinated attempt to mislead the international community regarding India's decision.
Defending India's stand, Gupta asserted that Pakistan cannot expect the benefits of normal bilateral arrangements while continuing to support terrorism. Reiterating India's position, he said terror and talks cannot go together, terror and trade cannot go together, and blood and water cannot flow together.
Rejecting Pakistan's allegations that India was weaponizing water, Gupta said such claims were intended to portray Pakistan as a victim while concealing the role of terrorism in deteriorating bilateral relations. He maintained that repeated attacks on Indian civilians and security forces, including the Pahalgam terror attack, had compelled India to reassess its treaty obligations in the interest of national security.
Gupta also criticized China for endorsing Pakistan's narrative at the conference, alleging that Beijing has consistently shielded Pakistan-based terrorists at international forums. He said China's support for Pakistan was driven by strategic and geopolitical interests rather than any commitment to peace or international law.
The BJP leader also opposed calls within India for unconditional dialogue with Pakistan, saying meaningful engagement was impossible unless Pakistan dismantled its terror infrastructure.
