New Delhi, 03 July (H.S.): The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Central Government's Grievance Appellate Committee to decide within 15 days an appeal seeking the removal of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee's video that allegedly insults Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The direction was issued by the Bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.
Advocate Amit Sachdeva has filed the petition seeking the removal of Dhruv Rathee's YouTube video, titled Can Hindus eat BEEF? Kerala Story 2 Exposed, which was uploaded on March 21.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the Central Government, submitted that the video allegedly insulted Hindu deities and contained content that was unacceptable. He argued that either Google should remove the video or a judicial order should be passed to ensure its removal and compliance.
Following the submissions, the High Court directed the Grievance Appellate Committee to dispose of the appeal within 15 days. The Court also observed that strict action would be taken against anyone failing to comply with its directions.
The petitioner has alleged that the YouTube video contains content that insults Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, hurts the religious sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma, and promotes religious disharmony.
Earlier, on June 11, the Saket Court had directed the Delhi Police to file an Action Taken Report (ATR) in connection with the matter.
