New Delhi, 03 July (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) National Secretary Tajinder Bagga has demanded the immediate shutdown of the Bat-BMS mobile application, alleging that it is being misused to remotely disable the batteries of e-rickshaws and other electric vehicles. He wrote to Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday, seeking urgent government intervention.

In his letter, Bagga stated that certain individuals were allegedly misusing the Bat-BMS mobile application to remotely switch off the batteries of e-rickshaws and other electric vehicles through Bluetooth connectivity. He noted that several videos demonstrating such incidents had gone viral on social media. According to him, these actions leave e-rickshaw drivers stranded in the middle of roads, disrupt their livelihoods, and cause significant financial hardship. He said the issue is particularly serious for drivers who depend entirely on their daily earnings to support their families.

Bagga further said that many of the viral videos circulating on social media were deeply distressing, showing e-rickshaw drivers stranded on roads, desperately seeking assistance, and, in some cases, breaking down in tears. He remarked that subjecting hardworking individuals, who rely on their daily income for survival, to such treatment is not only inhumane but also a direct assault on their dignity and means of livelihood. What some people portray as a prank, he said, is in reality an act that jeopardises the livelihood of economically vulnerable families.

He also warned that remotely disabling a moving vehicle poses a serious threat to road safety and could potentially lead to traffic accidents, making it a matter of public safety.

Bagga urged the government to immediately block the Bat-BMS application and ensure its removal from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and all other digital distribution platforms. He called for prompt action to prevent further misuse of the application and to safeguard both the livelihoods of e-rickshaw drivers and public safety.
