Lucknow, 03 July (HS): Uttar Pradesh accounts for 26% of the
country's total mango production while having just approximately 9% of the land
under cultivation, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Addressing the
first event of the Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2026 here, Adityanath stated,
When it comes to mangoes in the country, Uttar Pradesh has its own
special location. The state produces 26% of the country's mangoes, yet the crop
is farmed on just around 9% of the territory under mango cultivation. According
to the chief minister, the event would include over 800 types of mangoes from
throughout the state, including Dussehri from Malihabad, Langra from Varanasi
and Gorakhpur, Ratol from Baghpat and Saharanpur, and Amrapali from Basti.
Adityanath referred to the diversity of mangoes as the
strength of Uttar Pradesh, claiming that each type symbolizes the scent of its
land and the sweetness of its location. Highlighting the economic potential of
mango farming, he stated that one acre of mango cultivation has proven that a
farmer can make a net income of around Rs 2.5 lakh. Profits may be increased
even more if they are tied to value addition and processing. If we prepare it
for export, its strength and farmers' revenues will increase much further.
According to Adityanath, the festival provides a forum for farmers to promote
their goods and interact with customers through buyer-seller meetings, allowing
them to market their products globally. In terms of branding endeavors, he
stated that Malihabad's Dussehri mango now has a Geographical Indication (GI)
marking and is a global brand.
The chief minister stated that the state has also promoted
Malihabad mangoes under the Kakori brand, which is named after the martyrs of
the Kakori train incident in order to commemorate their sacrifice while also
providing the fruit a unique worldwide identity.
It embodies a sense of patriotism as well as the sweetness
of our farmers' hard labor, he remarked. According to Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh
has set up four sophisticated mango pack facilities in Saharanpur, Lucknow,
Amroha, and Varanasi to grade, sort, and package mangoes for export. He stated
that mangoes from the state are currently shipped to the United Kingdom, the
UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Kuwait, New Zealand, Belgium, Japan, Italy, Qatar,
and Russia.
The chief minister announced the establishment of an
Integrated Testing and Treatment Park at the Noida International Airport in
Jewar to boost agricultural produce exports from the state. He stated that the
mango festival, which began shortly after his government took office in 2017,
has grown into a major platform for promoting farmers, food processing,
exports, and the Centre's Vocal for Local initiative, as well as
facilitating buyer-seller meetings and the convergence of machinery suppliers,
FPOs, Self Help Groups, agriculture and horticulture scientists.
