West Bengal, 29 July (H.S.): The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active across West Bengal on Wednesday, with the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore forecasting light to moderate rainfall over most parts of the state. Some districts of North Bengal may receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several areas.

According to the weather office, most districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Nadia, Murshidabad and Birbhum, are likely to experience partly to densely cloudy skies throughout the day.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at several places, accompanied by gusty winds in some areas.

In North Bengal, districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur and Malda are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rain possible at isolated places.

Continuous rainfall in the hilly areas could trigger landslides, while low-lying areas may face waterlogging.

The Alipore weather office has forecast a maximum temperature of around 31°C and a minimum of around 26°C in Kolkata and adjoining areas. High humidity is likely to make conditions uncomfortable, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms expected during the day.

Meteorologists said continued moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal is likely to keep monsoon activity active across the state over the next few days. Intermittent rainfall is therefore expected to continue in several districts.
