Guwahati, 29 July (HS): The Assam government has announced major relief measures for students affected by the recent floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts. Students who lost their admit cards, mark sheets and certificates in the floods will be able to obtain duplicate copies free of cost without submitting a police report.

Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) Secretary Narnarayan Nath said flood-affected students will receive duplicate copies of their mark sheets and certificates free of charge to ensure their education is not disrupted.

In another significant relief measure, the state government will distribute free textbooks and school uniforms to nearly 1.5 lakh students after a preliminary assessment found that up to 80% of schools in the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat suffered flood damage.

Fresh sets of textbooks will replace books damaged or lost in the floods, while students who lost their belongings will also receive new school uniforms. The Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation has been directed to begin distribution from July 30 to minimise academic disruption.

The government said detailed damage assessments by the NDRF and SDRF will guide repair and restoration work in affected schools. The relief measures come in the wake of widespread concern after a video of a student trying to dry waterlogged textbooks went viral on social media.----------
