Bhubaneswar, 29 July (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday asserted that safeguarding the life and property of citizens remains the state government’s top priority as several districts continue to grapple with heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that he is personally monitoring the situation “minute by minute” and is in constant touch with senior officials. He informed that discussions have been held with the Chief Secretary and the Special Relief Commissioner to assess the prevailing conditions and review ongoing relief measures. The entire administrative machinery has been directed to ensure the safety and well-being of people in affected areas.

Appealing for calm, Majhi urged citizens not to panic. “Do not get perturbed or scared. We are standing with you at every step. Please follow official advisories and stay safe,” he said.

To strengthen flood management in severely affected regions, the state government has deployed three senior IAS officers to Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts. These officers will directly oversee evacuation, relief, and rehabilitation operations on the ground.

The Chief Minister has also instructed the Special Relief Commissioner’s office and the State Emergency Operations Centre to function круглосуточно (24×7) to maintain continuous monitoring of river water levels and the overall situation.

Rescue and evacuation teams, including NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Services, and Police personnel, have been placed on high alert to shift residents from vulnerable low-lying areas to safer locations.

The government has ensured that all flood shelters are adequately equipped with essential facilities such as safe drinking water, cooked food, emergency healthcare services, anti-venom injections, and sufficient cattle fodder.

To prevent theft and safeguard properties of evacuated residents, police have been directed to intensify night patrolling in affected villages.

Additionally, the Chief Minister has ordered immediate compensation for individuals whose homes and agricultural lands have been damaged due to the floods.

Notably, several parts of northern and western Odisha are experiencing flood-like conditions following incessant rainfall. Major rivers, including the Baitarani and Salandi, have crossed the danger mark, prompting authorities to intensify relief and rescue efforts.
