Guwahati, 29 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma last night announced a comprehensive relief package for flood-affected families across the state through a Facebook Live address.

The Chief Minister said the families of those who lost their lives in the floods will receive a total compensation of ₹9 lakh. Of this, ₹4 lakh will be provided by the government, while an additional ₹5 lakh will be released from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. He also announced that no post-mortem examination would be required for the compensation.

Dr. Sarma informed that the Chief Minister's Relief Fund has so far received ₹26.58 crore in donations from individuals and organisations for flood relief.

To support students affected by the floods, the government will provide free replacement of mark sheets and certificates. Schools damaged by the floods will receive renewed funding for the purchase of uniforms and free textbooks will also be redistributed.

The Chief Minister further announced financial assistance for students, with ₹1,000 for Higher Secondary students, ₹3,000 for undergraduate students, and ₹5,000 for postgraduate students.

Compensation will also be provided to families whose houses, ponds, handlooms and agricultural fields have been damaged in the floods.

As immediate relief, flood-affected families in Upper Assam will receive ₹15,000, which will be credited directly to their bank accounts within three to four days.

In another major announcement, beneficiaries of the Orunodoi Scheme in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts will receive ₹2,500 instead of ₹1,250. The amount will be credited on August 1, two days ahead of the scheduled date of August 3.----------
