New Delhi, 29 July (H.S.): A Delhi court has granted three days’ time to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit all documents related to the charge sheet and a list of statements in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak case. Fast-track court judge Anu Grover Baliga directed the CBI to file the required documents within three days. The court will hear the matter related to the charge sheet on August 3.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the CBI informed the court that the charge sheet and accompanying documents run into nearly 2,000 pages and are currently being scanned. The agency said additional time was required to submit the documents. Considering the request, the court granted three days for filing the records.
The CBI has filed a charge sheet against 13 accused persons in the case. They have been identified as Yash Yadav, Mangilal Bival, Dinesh Bival, Vikas Bival, Shubham Khairnar, Dhananjay Lokhande, Prahlad Kulkarni, Tejas Harshad Kumar, Dr Manoj Shirure, Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, Manisha Waghmare, Manisha Mandhare and Manisha Sanjay Havaldar. All the accused are currently in judicial custody.
The CBI registered an FIR against the accused under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 315(5), 318(4), 61(2), 238 and 303(2), along with relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, including Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(a), and Sections 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11 of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
The first hearing in the fast-track court constituted for the NEET paper leak case was postponed on July 27. Delhi High Court Chief Justice D. K. Upadhyaya had ordered the establishment of the fast-track court and appointed Judge Anu Grover Baliga to preside over proceedings. The court will deal with cases registered under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
The NEET examination was cancelled after allegations of question paper leakage emerged on May 3, and a re-examination was conducted on June 21. The Central Government subsequently ordered a CBI investigation into the matter.
