Guwahati, 29 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that no Hindu or Muslim will be allowed to purchase land within a 5-km radius of Satras.

The Chief Minister said that land transactions within the notified area will be permitted only among local residents who have been living in the area for at least three generations.

He clarified that Hindu and Muslim families already residing in these areas with valid land rights, including periodic land pattas, will not be affected and can continue to live there.

The announcement was made during a discussion in the Assembly on the proposed policy regarding the protection and regulation of land surrounding Assam's Satras.-----------
