Guwahati, 26 July (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday attended the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration organised by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare at the State War Memorial, Dighalipukhuri, paying homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.

Paying floral tributes to the martyrs, the Governor said Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a solemn reminder of the courage, patriotism and unwavering commitment displayed by the Indian Armed Forces in defending the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that the sacrifices of the Kargil heroes continue to inspire generations to uphold the values of bravery discipline and national service.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor urged the youth to draw inspiration from the lives of the soldiers and contribute to nation-building with dedication and commitment. He also interacted with veterans, serving defence personnel and the families of martyrs, expressing the nation's gratitude for their selfless service and reaffirming that India will always remain indebted to its brave soldiers.

During the programme, the Governor felicitated the family members of several decorated and fallen soldiers, including the parents of Capt. Jintu Gogoi, VrC, the mother of Gunner Udhab Das, the wife of Late Naik Someswar Saikia, SC, the mother of Late Sepoy Rupom Gogoi, SC and the wife of Late Havildar Padam Bahadur Shrestha.

The event was attended by senior Armed Forces officers, defence veterans, civil administration officials, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, students and members of the public. The Governor also appreciated the Directorate of Sainik Welfare for organising the programme and for its continued efforts towards the welfare of ex-servicemen.

The commemoration concluded with patriotic cultural performances and a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of national unity, integrity and selfless service exemplified by the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces.-----------
