West Bengal, 26 July (H.S.): Union Minister of State for Education and former West Bengal BJP president Dr Sukanta Majumdar offered prayers at the historic Baba Taraknath Temple in Tarakeswar on Sunday on the occasion of the Shravani Mela.

He was accompanied by Tarakeswar MLA Santu Pan, Singur MLA Dr Arup Das, Arambagh Organisational District BJP president Sushanta Bera, and several other party leaders and workers.

After offering special prayers at the temple, Majumdar interacted with the media and said, “I had visited this temple when I was the state BJP president. I have come here again after the formation of the government in the state. I prayed to Baba Taraknath that the dark days Bengal had witnessed in the past should never return.”

A large number of devotees thronged the temple premises as part of the annual Shravani Mela celebrations. The Union minister also interacted with pilgrims and prayed for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people.

Security arrangements were tightened in and around the temple complex in view of the large gathering of devotees and the visit of senior BJP leaders.

Majumdar's visit is being viewed as politically significant, with his remarks on the present situation in West Bengal drawing attention alongside his participation in the religious observances associated with the Shravani Mela.
