Guwahati, 25 July (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is carrying out large-scale restoration work on a war footing in flood-affected sections under the Tinsukia Division to restore normal train services at the earliest. Restoration activities are being carried out round the clock with a large deployment of manpower and heavy machinery at all affected locations.
According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, embankment protection and strengthening work is underway between Simaluguri and Lakwah, including at km 427/7-11 and other affected stretches. A ballast rake has been positioned near the affected site, while boulders are being unloaded from wagons to reinforce the damaged railway formation.
In the Simaluguri–Namti Ali section, restoration work is progressing with the unloading of stone dust and boulders and repair of the railway formation at multiple affected locations. Similar strengthening measures are being undertaken in the Amguri–Selenghat section, where sandbags, bamboo piling and rail piling are being used to stabilize the damaged areas. Transportation and loading of sandbags, rails and boulders are also continuing simultaneously.
In the Simaluguri–Sivasagar Town section, bamboo piling and embankment protection work is in progress, while continuous ballast supply is being maintained to strengthen the track structure and expedite restoration.
More than 700 workers, along with heavy machinery including Pokland excavators and JCBs, have been deployed across all affected sites. Ballast, boulders, sandbags, stone dust and rails are being transported continuously to reinforce the damaged railway infrastructure.
Senior railway officials of the Tinsukia Division are closely monitoring the restoration work to ensure effective coordination, timely deployment of resources and strict adherence to safety protocols. NFR said restoration work is being carried out on a 24x7 basis to resume train operations safely at the earliest while ensuring the safety of railway infrastructure and passengers.----------
