Senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee has been removed from representing the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) in all ongoing legal cases. The development came to light on Friday during a hearing in the Calcutta High Court related to the SSC's expired recruitment panel.

According to sources, the decision to replace Banerjee was taken on Thursday night. Senior advocate Indranil Roy has now been appointed to represent the SSC, with advocate Sunit Roy assisting him as junior counsel. The new legal team began appearing for the Commission from Friday.

The change follows the recent appointment of IAS officer Dushyant Nariala as the new Chairman of the SSC. Nariala, who served as West Bengal's Chief Secretary before the Assembly elections, is currently the state's Resident Commissioner in New Delhi while also holding charge as SSC Chairman. Sources said the decision to appoint a new legal team was taken under his leadership.

Several cases related to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff are pending before the Calcutta High Court. One of the key allegations is that appointments were made from recruitment panels even after their validity had expired.

On Friday, Justice Sougata Bhattacharyya's bench heard one such case concerning the expired panel, where Indranil Roy and Sunit Roy appeared on behalf of the SSC.

Kalyan Banerjee had represented the SSC in several major recruitment-related cases in the past. However, after the change in the state government, his appearances on behalf of the Commission had become infrequent. With the latest decision, he has now been formally removed from all SSC-related litigation.
