Guwahati, 24 July (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a series of customer-friendly initiatives to make freight transportation faster, more efficient, and seamless while strengthening logistics infrastructure across the region.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Narangi railway station under the Lumding Division has been handling both inward and outward leased parcel bookings since June 10, 2026. Advance booking facilities for parcel space in SLRs, parcel vans, and indented parcel traffic have also been introduced to simplify parcel movement for customers.

To improve freight operations, chargeable inter-distance has been approved for newly constructed broad gauge stations on the Balurghat–Hili section under Katihar Division with effect from June 23, 2026. The move is expected to facilitate smoother freight train operations and faster cargo movement.

NFR divisions have also registered strong freight-loading performance in recent months. Alipurduar Division loaded six maize rakes (252 wagons), earning freight revenue of ₹4.22 crore, while Katihar Division handled 39 maize rakes, generating ₹23.53 crore.

Lumding Division recorded significant freight movement by loading 1,712 wagons of stone chips, earning ₹6.97 crore. It also generated ₹9.89 crore from loading 2,420 wagons of cement and ₹4.08 crore through the transportation of 444 wagons of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL).

Sharma said the initiatives reflect NFR's commitment to expanding freight services, improving logistics infrastructure, and providing better facilities to customers while supporting trade, industry, and economic growth across the Northeast.-----------
