Bhubaneswar, 24 July (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory asking fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast from July 24 to July 27 due to expected rough sea conditions and strong winds.

According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, squally weather conditions are likely to prevail over the region during this period. Wind speeds are expected to reach 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph on July 24 and 25. The intensity is forecast to increase further, with wind speeds likely to reach 40–50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph on July 26 and 27.

The Met department has also predicted that sea conditions will remain rough to very rough along and off the Odisha coast throughout the four-day period.

In view of the adverse weather, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this time. Authorities have also urged those currently at sea to return to shore at the earliest to ensure safety.

The warning comes amid active monsoon conditions prevailing over the Bay of Bengal region, leading to heightened maritime risks along the Odisha coastline.
