Complaint of forced religious conversion to Islam

Barabanki, 23 July (HS): A

case of forced religious conversion has come to light in the Fatehpur Kotwali

area of Barabanki district. Police registered a case late last night and

promised action. According to a woman from the Fatehpur police station area,

her husband died a long time ago. She lives with her daughter. Her daughter's

date of birth is February 4, 2008. The woman alleges that in 2024, Constable

Asif, posted at the Fatehpur Kotwali, contacted her daughter and attempted to

sexually assault her.

He tried to force her to convert to Islam several times over the phone.

When her daughter refused, he tried to exploit her poverty. The constable lured

her with money and tried to persuade her to convert. For this, Asif arranged a

conversation with Javed, a resident of Basara village in the Fatehpur Kotwali

area, who was living in Saudi Arabia.

Javed began to persuade his daughter to convert. He gradually established

contact on Instagram and brainwashed her. He returned from Saudi Arabia and

contacted his daughter on January 2, 2026. He took her with him, sexually

assaulted her, and taught her to convert to Islam. During this time, the

daughter became pregnant twice, and was forced to undergo abortions by

administering medication.

A few days ago, Javed took his daughter to a shrine in Masouli Bazaar

with his brother-in-law, Rehan, a resident of Chak village in the Safdarganj

police station area, and Hamza, a resident of Kanoon Goyan in the city police

station. There, the Maulana, accompanied by seven or eight companions, forcibly

married her daughter to Javed. ASP Vikas Chandra Tripathi said that a report

has been filed. Some people have been detained and are being questioned. The

victim's statement is being recorded.
