Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the House on Wednesday for the remainder of the Monsoon Session. He has been accused of using unparliamentary language and making indecent remarks against women MPs. After the motion against Kalyan Banerjee was passed, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until the next day.

Lok Sabha proceedings, which had been adjourned twice earlier in the day, resumed at 2 pm. During this session, presiding officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti informed the House about a written complaint received by Speaker Om Birla from women members. Following this, a motion moved by Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal was accepted by the House through a voice vote amid loud uproar.

Presiding officer Tenneti said that Kalyan Banerjee had used unparliamentary language. He said a written complaint had been received against him by Speaker Om Birla, which was against the dignity of the House and objectionable, and that the Speaker believed action should be taken against him.

Arjun Ram Meghwal said that Banerjee had not only made indecent remarks against women members but had also misbehaved with them. Therefore, he should be suspended from the proceedings of the House for the remainder of the session.
