New Delhi, 22 July (H.S.):

Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday met with foreign ministers from several countries, including China, Russia and the United States. During his meeting with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, he raised issues related to fair market access, trade balance and supply chains.

In his opening remarks at the delegation-level talks, Jaishankar said that facilitating official-level and people-to-people contacts is of critical importance. He added that meetings of various mechanisms and forums should be aligned with the shared priorities of both countries.

On the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings held in Manila, the foreign minister conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral ties with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Jaishankar told X that India reiterated its serious concern for the safety of Indian seafarers in the region during the discussion. The two leaders discussed trade and investment, energy, connectivity, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges. They also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and the situation in the Gulf.

Jaishankar also met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two leaders discussed key areas of the India–U.S. comprehensive global strategic partnership, including trade and tariffs, energy, defence and security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and regional, global and multilateral issues.

In a meeting with Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Jaishankar reviewed the steadily growing cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on advancing the bilateral objectives set by the prime ministers of India and Canada.

During his meeting with Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong, the results of Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Australia were discussed. Both ministers agreed to continue deliberations at the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting.

Jaishankar also held talks with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, and the Philippines’ Foreign Minister Maria Theresa P. Lazaro. In his discussion with New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters, the two sides examined security conditions in the Indo‑Pacific region and considered measures to further strengthen maritime cooperation.
