Guwahati, 22 July (HS): To ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity in flood-affected areas of Upper Assam, the Central government has introduced a temporary emergency telecom measure in three districts.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has activated the Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) facility in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat, allowing mobile users to access the network of any available telecom operator if their own service is unavailable due to flood-related disruptions. The special arrangement will remain effective until July 24, 2026.

The move comes amid widespread flooding that has impacted telecom infrastructure, making communication difficult for residents in several areas. By enabling ICR, authorities aim to ensure seamless connectivity for emergency response, rescue operations and relief distribution.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged people in the affected districts to utilise the facility whenever required for communication and coordination during the crisis.

ASDMA has also asked residents to keep emergency helpline numbers handy. The State Control Room can be reached at 0361-2237219 and 9401044617, while toll-free emergency numbers 1070, 1079 and 112 remain operational. People may also contact their respective District Control Rooms through 1077 or 112 for assistance.

Officials believe the emergency roaming facility will help maintain vital communication links and improve coordination between affected residents, disaster response teams and relief agencies until normal telecom services are fully restored.------------
