Guwahati, 22 July (HS): Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday informed the State Assembly that the government remains prepared to tackle natural disasters, but described the flood situation in Charaideo and Shivsagar and Jorhat districts as an unprecedented and sudden calamity that left little time for advance preparations.

Presenting an official statement on the flood situation in the House, Hazarika said Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, immediately after receiving reports of the worsening floods in Upper Assam while in New Delhi, directed the guardian ministers of Charaideo, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts to rush to the affected areas.

The minister informed the Assembly that within hours, the designated ministers reached the flood-hit districts and launched relief and rescue operations in coordination with the local administration.

Reaffirming the government's commitment, Hazarika assured the House that every possible assistance would be extended to flood-affected families and that the state administration is working round the clock to provide relief and rehabilitation to all those impacted by the disaster.-----------
