Imphal, 22 July (HS): Security forces apprehended an active member of the banned PREPAK (Progressive) outfit during a search operation in Manipur's Thoubal district, officials said on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted on July 21 at Lilong Alia Lamkhai under Lilong Police Station, where the team arrested S/S Captain Lourembam Kumar Meitei, also known as Kanto, Naobi, and Abung (43), a resident of Haobam Marak Lourem Leikai in Imphal West district.

A .32 calibre pistol along with a magazine was recovered from his possession during the operation.

The arrested militant and the seized weapon have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action. Officials said security forces are continuing intensified counter-insurgency operations and illegal arms recovery drives across Manipur as part of the ongoing 'Disarm for Peace' campaign.------------
