Bhubaneswar, 21 July (H.S.): In a significant anti-corruption action, Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended a Revenue Inspector for allegedly accepting a bribe in Sundargarh district.
The accused, identified as Smt. Anita Jena, Revenue Inspector of Kalosihira Circle under Kuarmunda Tahasil, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹4,000 from an applicant. The bribe was reportedly sought for issuing a land demarcation report related to the applicant’s ancestral property.
According to Vigilance officials, the applicant had submitted a request for the demarcation report several months ago. Despite repeated follow-ups, the accused officer allegedly delayed the process without justification and demanded illegal gratification to process the application.
Aggrieved by the harassment, the applicant lodged a complaint with Odisha Vigilance. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and successfully apprehended Smt. Jena while she was accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted money of ₹4,000 was recovered from her possession and seized as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations associated with the accused to investigate disproportionate assets.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Rourkela Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 05 dated July 20, 2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is currently underway.
Officials stated that a detailed report will be released after completion of the ongoing probe.
