New Delhi, 21 July (H.S.):

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Sikkim’s Namchi district. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident. Additionally, financial assistance of ₹50,000 each will be provided to the injured.

Prime Minister Modi said that he was deeply distressed by the tragic incident and that his thoughts and sympathies are with the affected families during this difficult time. He also assured that all possible medical assistance would be provided to the injured.
