New Delhi, 21 July (H.S.):

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday spoke with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and took stock of the situation following the landslide near an under-construction tunnel in Namchi district, along with the ongoing relief and rescue operations.

Shah told the Chief Minister that the Central Government stands firmly with Sikkim during this difficult time. He assured that all possible assistance would be provided by the Centre to ensure the success of the rescue operation and to support those affected by the incident.

The Home Minister appreciated the efforts of the agencies engaged in relief and rescue operations and expressed hope that the trapped workers would be safely evacuated at the earliest. He also assured that all necessary assistance would be extended to the affected families.
