Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with opposition MPs, met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday and demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament on the NEET-UG question paper leak, controversies surrounding the examination system, and the alleged police action against students.

Rahul Gandhi said the government should be held accountable on this serious issue concerning the future of students and that an open debate should be conducted in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, RSP MP N.K. Premachandran and several other opposition leaders during the meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The opposition demanded that the Leader of Opposition and other opposition parties be given time in the House to discuss the NEET and CBSE examination controversies, the Delhi Police action against students, and the government’s accountability in these matters. They also sought a statement from the Education Minister in Parliament on the entire issue.

Rahul Gandhi, in a post on social media platform X, said that opposition MPs met the Lok Sabha Speaker and demanded a comprehensive discussion in Parliament on the alleged brutality against students and the examination crisis.

He said that students were raising legitimate questions about their future but were allegedly subjected to police action. “If Parliament cannot discuss the future of the country’s youth, then what is its purpose?” he questioned, adding that the opposition would not allow the issue to be suppressed and would continue to raise the voice of students both inside and outside Parliament.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that he had urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to allow a discussion on students’ issues, but was told that the matter would have to be discussed with the government.

He said the issue concerns the future of students and young people. “Students were beaten, but the Prime Minister has not apologised so far,” Gandhi said, alleging that the country’s education and examination system had collapsed and that young people were protesting against it. He demanded that the government provide answers on the entire matter.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal also posted on X, stating that opposition parties had urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to allocate adequate time for discussion on the NEET and CBSE examination controversies, the Delhi Police action against youth participating in peaceful protests, and the government’s accountability in these matters.

He further demanded that the Education Minister clarify the government’s position on these issues in Parliament.
