Kohima, 21 July (HS): The death toll from rain-triggered flash floods and landslides in Nagaland has climbed to nine after five more bodies were recovered in Mon district, while four people remain missing, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said on Tuesday.

Rescue teams are continuing search operations in the affected areas as officials work to locate the missing persons and assess the full extent of the damage. Preliminary estimates indicate that at least 7,460 people have been impacted across the state.

Mon district has emerged as the worst-hit region, with all nine fatalities reported there. Five of the victims lost their lives in landslides at Shantham Ward in Mon town.

In Naginimora, four people swept away by flash floods were rescued. One of them suffered fractures, while the remaining three sustained minor injuries.

The disaster has damaged 64 houses across 93 villages in 10 districts, though authorities said the figures are expected to rise as detailed surveys continue. The floods have also claimed the lives of 83 livestock, including 15 mithuns, 13 cattle and 53 pigs.

Shamator recorded the highest number of affected residents, with nearly 7,000 people from six villages impacted by landslides. Tuensang reported 201 affected residents across 12 villages, while 30 villages in Zunheboto experienced landslides, affecting 26 people.

Persistent rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across Nagaland, damaging roads, public infrastructure, farmland and essential services. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable locations to remain cautious as the situation continues to evolve.-----------
