Kolkata, 21 July (H.S.): Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives during the July 21, 1993 movement, on the occasion of Martyrs' Day. She said the day should strengthen the resolve of every member of the Maa-Mati-Manush family to uphold democracy, justice and the rights of the people.

In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee said the sacrifice of those who laid down their lives in 1993 continues to inspire people even today. She added that their legacy would always remain at the heart of the movement and continue to inspire future generations.

The Trinamool Congress observes July 21 every year as Martyrs' Day in West Bengal. The day commemorates the 1993 Youth Congress movement led by Mamata Banerjee, during which several Youth Congress workers were killed in police firing.
